This store used to exist less than a 1/4 mile west of the Weichpec Bridge towards Martin’s Ferry. It is just an empty lot now…
On the opposite side of the road is an old cemetery where some of my husband’s ancestors are buried.
It is rather sad and beautiful place [see previous post].
I wonder what they pumped out of the barrels on the porch. Great photo.
Once upon a time, we found an old oil can and pump at a yard sale-and the pump looked like that-the can was about 3 foot tall…
I wish I knew the date on the photo, as it would likely narrow down the possibilities.

I’d guess the early ’50s, but is that a satellite dish on the roof?
I want to say no way-but darn, it does look like it, doesn’t it? I wish I had a date for you…
I may be wrong…But, is that satellite dish a Gasoline Company sign? It’s just very shadowed. The outline looks like the old Shell Oil or some other sign.

My husband has been in this area a long time and thinks that store came down in the 1950s or 60s, making a satellite dish unlikely.
I would bet is is just a sign, but can’t be sure.
If you ever magnify it enough to figure it out, please let me know.
