More changes for Bracut

The Mill Yard will be moving from Hwy 101 between Eureka and Arcata to their new building in the Arcata Industrial Park, but it is only one of many changes that have happened in that area over the years…

Interesting photos. I don’t remember seeing the last two. You would never know there was a cut there today. The last photo is interesting for you an clearly see the result of the railroad “war”, which was the trying to get a 2nd railroad line between Eureka and Arcata. The 2nd line was never finished, but you can still see the roadbed today.

Also the mill yard area did have a racetrack.

I’ve never heard about the racetrack there. I have (have I posted?) photos of the south Eureka racetrack–and there was one on Liscom Hill in the early, early days. Was the Bracut area track for horses or cars?

Sorry I took so long to respond. I maybe incorrect about the racetrack, but the 2nd line was there was so much traffic, that there was basically a race to complete a railroad between the two cities.

If you look at the book, “Steam in the Redwoods”, it is the best look at the railroads in Humboldt County, with maps in the back, that the railroads with where they went, and how much.
