Unfortunately the old Arcata City Hall is not.
I believe the Historical Sites Society of Arcata was founded after this old beauty was razed.

I am sure city hall was well built. why would they tear it down? rhetorical question . . I love photos that show people–so many do not. Makes me wonder where they all are. The two ladies outside the building… sweet.
Glad you liked the photo. I like any details you don’t notice at first glance. Even shoes can be interesting to me 🙂
yup, those little things bring those photos to life–real people with real experiences.. did you notice the odd stance in which the woman was standing in the photo you posted of 5th street? Half of her is cut off but seeing her left leg it looks like she had her legs spread rather far apart–like she is ready to jump into the window and grab what she is looking at.
No comment on this, but glad folks in Arcata stepped up to make sure other historic structures didn’t go the same way…
The top pic of cows on the Plaza was taken about 1902 by Juliette or Elizabeth Chapman. The original was taken off a celluloid negative and first published by the Arcata Union in 1966. Palmquist rarely gave credit to the origin of many of his photos.
